Third person now in custody in suspicious death

Police now have three people in custody after a suspicious death at the Welcome Inn late in August.

Emergency crews were called to the home at the corner of Louise Avenue and 11th Street on the morning of Aug. 28, when the body of Aaron Daniel Jardine, 31, was found in a second-floor suite.

The death was characterized as “suspicious.”

The three now in custody were arrested individually over the weekend, and police say they believe the trio had been involved in an altercation with Jardine within 48 hours of his death.

Patrick Levi Eaglestick, 18, of Brandon, was arrested on Friday. On Saturday, 25-year-old Frederick Brass was arrested at his residence in the city and 21-year-old Steven Jordan Codie Cook, of Indian Birch First Nation, turned himself in to police.

All three suspects have been charged with robbery with violence, aggravated assault, forcible confinement and assault with a weapon.

Police say that there are no other suspects at this time and that further charges for the three are possible.

The investigation is ongoing in consultation with the Crown Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the province.
