Traffic stop turns up stun gun, marijuana

A man who used to live in Westman but has since moved to Calgary got into some serious hot water Thursday afternoon when he came back to Brandon carrying a stun gun and drugs.

A passenger in the vehicle he was driving also ended up in cuffs for violating a probation order and carrying a police-style baton.

Brandon police found the contraband while they were doing regular traffic stops as part of a ticketing blitz on the 00-block of 26th Street.

One of the vehicles they pulled over had a 26-year-old Melita man as a passenger, who was found to be wanted by police for failing to comply with the conditions of his probation.

He was arrested and spent the night in jail at the Brandon Correctional Centre.

Police say he was also carrying a police-style extendable baton.

He was to appear in court yesterday to face a charge of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man who also used to live in Westman but now calls Calgary home, was also arrested after a police search turned up a stun gun in the vehicle.

He has been released from custody to appear in court in June to face charges of possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of marijuana.
