Don’t drive, cycle with headphones
Did you know that driving a motor vehicle or operating a bicycle with headphones on both ears is against the law?
According to Section 215 of the Manitoba Highway Traffic Act, the use of headphones is prohibited. This law states:
• No driver of a motor vehicle or operator of a bicycle shall, while operating the motor vehicle or bicycle on a highway (city streets are considered highways), wear on both ears, headphones which are used for the purpose of listening to a radio or a recording.
Now you know. So the next time you decide to go cruising in your car or for a ride on your bicycle while listening to your favorite tunes wearing headphones, you better bring your wallet. Breaking this law could result in a traffic ticket and a fine totaling $113.10. Always keep at least one ear tuned in to safety.
Be happy, be safe.
