Have you heard the expression “rolling stop?” Some motorists believe that a “rolling stop” is as good as a complete stop. The Highway Traffic Act states that at all “red traffic lights and stop signs,” a vehicle must come to a complete stop and not proceed until safe. Where right turns at a red light are permitted, the driver must come to a complete stop before making a right turn, and again, not proceed until the turn can be made safely. Drivers who make “rolling stops” are not only putting themselves and other motorists at risk, but could receive fines totalling $203.80.
