According to Transport Canada, the number one cause of death for those under 40 is car accidents. Each year in Manitoba, approximately 130 people die in vehicle collisions, and 40-50 per cent of those were not wearing seatbelts. Manitoba has one of the lowest seatbelt wearing rates in the country.
Wearing your seatbelt is the law in Manitoba. Not wearing your seatbelt is an offense under the Highway Traffic Act which can net you a fine over $200, and any driver charged for not wearing their seatbelt will be assessed demerits against their driver’s license.
The seatbelt law in Manitoba is getting tougher. Be kind to your pocket book wear your seat belt. Wearing your seatbelt may also save your life.
