WASAGAMING — This weekend, the International Mountain Biking Association Trail Care Crew will visit Riding Mountain National Park to give an all-day trail design and construction workshop.
The two-day workshop, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, is open to the public. Participants will learn helpful trail design techniques.
Directed by the Canadian office of IMBA, in partnership with Parks Canada and the Trans Canada Trail, the Trail Care Crew program includes a full-time professional team of trail experts who travel across Canada to work with local government officials and land managers, local IMBA-affiliated mountain bike clubs, Parks Canada sites and Trans Canada Trail organizations to improve trail opportunities Canada-wide.
This visit is one of more than 20 stops on the 2012 schedule.
The Trail Care Crew teaches sustainable trail building, which means building natural surface trails that last a long time and require minimal maintenance. This helps reduce trail damage, protects the environment and enhances visitor enjoyment. These trails are designed to be enjoyed by hikers and bikers alike with the goal of helping wilderness enthusiasts to access scenic natural landscapes.
IMBA Canada is a non-profit association whose mission is to create, enhance and preserve great trail experiences for mountain bikers throughout Canada.
Since 1988, IMBA has been bringing out the best in mountain biking worldwide by encouraging low-impact riding, volunteer trail work participation, and co-operation among different trail user groups, grassroots advocacy and innovative trail management solutions.
