Officials recently announced the official name of Virden’s multipurpose recreation centre, which recognizes the importance of the oil and gas industry. The facility, which opened in June 2011, is now known as Tundra Oil and Gas Place.
Virden’s new multipurpose recreation centre finally has a name.
On Friday, at the Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze, it was announced that the facility will be named Tundra Oil and Gas Place.
"The community of Virden and all of our neighbours here in the southwest corner of Manitoba appreciate the oil and gas industry and everything it provides to us including a strong economic outlook," Virden Mayor Jeff McConnell said.
"This building would not have happened without the large contribution of the Richardson Foundation and the presence of Tundra Oil and Gas partnership in our communities. We look forward to the many years of activities that will happen here at Tundra Oil and Gas Place."
Several Tundra Oil and Gas senior officials were on hand for the announcement.
"Tundra’s connection to Virden spans more than a quarter century and we could not be more proud to continue to share our successes with the community," Tundra president Dan MacLean said.
"This facility will attract more than just crowds, it will shine an international spotlight on this corner of our province."
