Westman Communications Group has donated $100,000 to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation’s A Sense of Home campaign.
"We cannot think of a better way of showing support for our communities than to be part of this campaign that will culminate with the completion of Murray House," said Westman’s president and CEO, Dave Baxter.
Westman is a customer-owned co-operative that operates cable systems in 36 communities. A leader in entertainment, communication and information technology products and services, Westman also owns and operates local radio stations 880 CKLQ and 94.7 STAR FM, which broadcast throughout western Manitoba.
The company, which has served Westman for 35 years, becomes one of the major contributors to the A Sense of Home campaign.
Baxter said they are proud to contribute to a project that will provide a comfortable and convenient home away from home for cancer patients and their families travelling to Brandon for treatment.
"Being away from the support network of family and friends during the difficult time of cancer treatment can be very stressful, and we hope that our support of this very worthwhile project can ease the stress of those situations in a significant way," he said.
Westman Communications Group supports its customers and their communities with donations and sponsorships for local events, in addition to scholarships and free educational television programming.
"On behalf of the BRHC Foundation board of directors, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Westman Communications Group for their contribution to Murray House," foundation board chair Gerry Walker said.
"It is by and through the generosity of all our donors that Murray House is becoming a reality and we are very excited that Westman has committed to be among them."
The A Sense of Home residence building campaign launched in September 2011, with an initial proposed fundraising goal of $2.5 million, with that goal being increased to approximately $2.8 million in early November.
The ceremonial ground-breaking ceremony for the Murray House cancer treatment residence took place on Nov. 15, with construction by Brandon’s Excel Design & Construction expected to begin shortly.
