Brandon’s mayoral race is back down to two.
Gary Neil Wilson withdrew his registration papers Monday, less than two weeks after filing.
The 30-year-old father of four said his reason for bowing out was “social pressures.”
Wilson said he is not ruling out politics completely.
“Maybe I’ll take a run at it later,” he said. “What I should have done first was be more planned out about it. I should have talked it over with my wife and explained it to her …because the mayoral position, you’re a rep for Brandon, to sum it up in a nutshell.”
Wilson said he is looking for jobs, and wants to stay in Brandon.
Incumbent Mayor Shari Decter Hirst and businessman Rick Chrest remain in the running.
Any other potential candidates have until the end of the nomination period (Sept. 16) to file papers.
The Brandon municipal election takes place Oct. 22.
