Winnipeg donates $50M to conservancy

The City of Winnipeg will donate $50 million over 10 years to the Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s fundraising campaign.

The majority of the city’s contributions to date, just over $16 million, have gone to the construction of the park’s Nature Playground, improvements to the Duck Pond, the development of the Journey to Churchill project and the construction of the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre at the park’s zoo. Another $16.7 million will go to repairs, upgrades and park improvements.

With the donation, the conservancy has raised $109 million for its Imagine a Place fundraising campaign, more than half the $200-million goal.

A public phase of the campaign will take place at the Party for the Park on Saturday, June 3, from noon to 4 p.m.
