A woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend will have to wait to find out whether she’ll be released on bail.A man was sent to hospital with a ruptured spleen on Thursday night and the woman accused of stabbing him appeared in Brandon court on Friday for a bail hearing.
Crown attorney Marycia Kruk outlined the following allegations which haven’t been proven in court and the woman is presumed innocent.
Kruk said police were called to a domestic dispute at an apartment within a house on the 200-block of 12th street around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.
There, they found a 43-year-old man who had bite marks on his hands, cuts to his cheek and eyebrow, and a slash or stab wound to his torso.
He was taken to hospital where he was rushed into surgery to treat a ruptured spleen.
It’s alleged that his girlfriend had smashed a bottle on his face and stabbed him with a knife.
As of Friday afternoon, the man remained in Brandon hospital in stable condition.
The woman identified as his girlfriend denies the description surrounding the alleged stabbing and assault. She claimed that her boyfriend had attacked her and she’d defended herself.
Kruk told court that the woman had complained of sore ribs and was also taken to hospital, and police noted that she had a bruise above her eye.
Two young children — who appear to be the woman’s nieces — were in the home at the time of the violence.
Court also heard that the woman and her boyfriend were on orders not to have contact with each other as they’d both been charged for allegedly assaulting each other on Nov. 3.
Kruk said it’s alleged that the woman had been living at her boyfriend’s home for three months, despite an order that specified she was to live elsewhere and not communicate with her boyfriend.
Judge Shauna Hewitt-Michta reserved her decision on whether to grant the woman bail and she remains in custody as she awaits another court appearance today.
Shonice Marie Tacan, 24, is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and other offences.
