A local woman will ring in the new year with a court date as police allege that she was lying when she claimed to have been robbed for her cellphone.
Police say they received the false report at 3 a.m. on Sunday.
A woman claimed that two males had robbed her of her cellphone and she supplied a description of the “suspects” and details of the “robbery.”
However, with the help of the cellphone company, police tracked the phone to a general area. And, another woman told them that she’d found it at a city business.
The owner of the phone then allegedly admitted that she’d lost the $1,000 phone and feared it wouldn’t be replaced unless it was reported stolen.
A 29-year-old Brandon woman will appear in court in February on a count of public mischief.
