A bloody attack that left a woman with a cut to her forehead was sparked by name calling.
Being called names by someone isn’t an excuse to attack them, Judge Krystyna Tarwid told the 41-year-old offender in Brandon court on Thursday.
“That’s no reason to punch them up,” Tarwid said.
Evelene Gail Shingoose, 41, pleaded guilty to assault and to breaches of a release order by drinking and failing to keep the peace.
Crown attorney Ron Toews said the attack happened at a Rossburn home on Oct. 16. An intoxicated Shingoose punched a woman, pushed her to the floor and then kicked her in the head and stomach.
The victim was left with a cut to her forehand which bled profusely and when RCMP arrested Shingoose she had blood on her shoes. Shingoose was on an order to abstain from alcohol at the time.
Defence lawyer Bob Harrison said the victim was having an affair with his client’s ex-husband, but that wasn’t what had upset Shingoose.
She took exception to the victim calling her various derogatory names.
Tarwid placed Shingoose on a one-year conditional discharge with 25 hours of community service work.
