The investigation continues into a workplace fatality in which a man was crushed by a concrete slab.
The accident happened at an acreage three to four kilometres east of Rapid City on July 24.
Workplace Safety and Health reports that workers were demolishing a cement cistern when a concrete slab, part of the cistern, broke loose and fell on the victim.
It’s believed that the slab weighed more than 5,000 pounds (907 kilograms).
Friends and acquaintances have identified the deceased as 33-year-old Leon Houle of Rapid City.
On Wednesday, Workplace Safety and Health Division reported that it continues to investigate and there’s no word yet on how long that investigation will take.
The company that was doing the work in this case was Houle and Durnin Construction and Leon Houle was a partner in the company, a spokesperson for the division confirmed.
A stop work order was issued in this case.
The order remains in place until the company does a job hazard analysis and provides Workplace Safety and Health Division with a safe plan for completing the demolition.
An investigation by the division can result in fines, and the results can be forwarded to Manitoba Justice to decide whether charges should be laid under the Workplace Safety and Health Act or Criminal Code.
Because the investigation continues in this case, there’s no word yet of any possible fines or charges.
Houle’s family has declined comment at this time.
