2 teens accused of fatally beating man who came to aid of his daughter

WINNIPEG - Two youths are on trial for the fatal beating a man who came to the aid of his pregnant daughter in Winnipeg.

Police say the two boys, who were 15 at the time, attacked 48-year-old Joseph Lalonde outside a home in 2011.

They both face charges of second-degree murder and assault.

The Crown says the two attacked the man's daughter with a pellet gun and a bat, and when Lalonde stepped in, they beat him until he was unconscious.

Lalonde was in a coma for five days before he died.

Police say a gang-related argument between the two boys and another group preceded the beating, but Lalonde and his daughter had nothing to do with it.
