Co-accused in Winnipeg drug dealer death point fingers from witness box

WINNIPEG - A jury has heard he-said he-said testimony this week from two men who have pointed fingers at each other in the death of a Winnipeg drug dealer whose body was found in a barrel floating in a Manitoba river.

Kristopher Brincheski, who is 31, and the 37-year-old co-accused, Corey Tymchyshyn, are charged with first-degree murder in the February 2008 death of Chad Davis.

Brincheski testified in his own defence on Thursday that Tymchyshyn killed the 22-year-old man before they placed the body in a barrel and tossed it into the Lee River northeast of Winnipeg.

Brincheski also told the court that Tymchyshyn repeatedly threatened him if he said anything about what had happened.

On Tuesday, Tymchyshyn told the jury that Brincheski killed Davis with a hammer while the two were involved in a fight over a drug debt, but that the older man acted in self-defence because Davis had started the scuffle.

Brincheski will face cross-examination by Tymchyshyn's lawyers before closing arguments begin next Tuesday. (CJOB)
