Manitoba registry to name those who have abused, neglected patients

WINNIPEG - Individuals found to have abused or neglected patients or other vulnerable adults may find their names on an abuse registry in Manitoba.

The government says it's a way to protect people in hospitals or personal care homes from potential harm.

The idea is to prevent offenders from working in health-care settings again.

Regulations that come into effect his week require the Protection for Persons in Care Office to refer cases to the registry.

A committee will decide whether to include the name.

The name of anyone convicted of an offence against a vulnerable person will automatically be placed on the list.
