Don’t be afraid, Brandon, but Stephen King is in town.
Of course, this King isn’t the U.S. horror novelist, but instead a Nova Scotia man here for two days as a Communities in Bloom judge.
King is joined by fellow judge Steve Preston, from Ontario, and the pair will have the red carpet rolled out for them as Brandon puts its best face forward.
We’ve noted with appreciation the hard work put into boulevards, parks and hanging flower baskets by dedicated city staff.
But although the colourful floral arrangements are the most eye-catching part of Brandon’s efforts in the “champions” category of Communities in Bloom, that’s not all the judges will be looking at.
Community involvement and heritage are other aspects of the competition. And community development manager Esther Bryan even noted that environmental initiatives at the Eastview Landfill are part of the city’s all-around effort.
Yes, we’re entering the dump into a beautiful city contest.
Unfortunately, large swaths of the best part of the city are still struggling to return to form after last year’s devastating flood.
Despite that, we believe Brandon can be proud of the efforts that have been made this year.
We’ll find out in October if the judges agree.
