  • New owners ready to take over Brandon Boarding Kennel

    The Brandon Boarding Kennel is keeping a change of ownership all in the family. Danna Rudniski, Darrell Creighton and another partner will be the new owners of the Brandon Boarding Kennel, located at the corner of 66th Street and Patricia Avenue, come July 1.
  • Try, try, try to understand ... they're magic men!

    If it wasn’t for their youthful faces, you would think Holden Lumbard and Brett Chrest were seasoned magicians performing in a large amphitheatre to hundreds of stunned and astounded audience members. Evolution Entertainer magicians and business partners, 14-year-old Lumbard and 15-year-old Chrest started their magic act up at the end of the year and are now the latest and the greatest on the event entertainment list, doing everything from birthday parties to corporate get-togethers.
  • Time to Unwind with massage, yoga

    Unwind Massage and Yoga Studio, located at 763 10th St., is offering the perfect mix of massage and yoga to help anyone unwind and soon, parents and kids will be able to try yoga together. Unwind owner, massage therapist and yoga teacher Melissa Krochak said she teaches the gentle form of Hatha yoga, which is great for beginners.

  • 20th anniversary deals at Rhonda's

    Rhonda’s Nail & Hair Care, at 1865 Brandon Ave., is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month and there are lots of great deals to be had for customers. Rhonda’s Nails & Hair Care opened in May 1993 with just two staff members. Owner Rhonda Williams said there have been two other owners during the lifespan of the business, which she started, and is now once again owner. The salon has grown to six staff members and expanded beauty services as well.
  • Black Tie Event on the move again

    Black Tie Event has grown so much, they are in the process of moving into their third location in the last four years. “We’re in the process of expanding again,” said Heather Merckx, a graphic designer, who owns the event planning company with her sister, Hazel Thorne, who’s a florist.
  • Pet Lovers 'excited' about new location

    A Pet Lovers Warehouse is finally in its big, beautiful location after some extra and unexpected months of construction. Now located at 2030 Park Ave., just down the block from its old location, at 2324 Park Ave., the pet supply store boasts an updated, bright look and is double its previous size.

    Homemade pie, Denver omelettes, the sweet smell of fresh baked cinnamon buns and loaves, not to mention all the Buicks, GMs and Chevrolets. Alison’s Lunch Room has a unique spot for her little café in Brandon, directly above the Murray Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC dealership, at 1500 Richmond Ave.
  • Trio of longtime employees new Stream 'N' Wood owners

    You might not have noticed, but Stream ‘N’ Wood, located at 135 17th St. North, has undergone a major change. Longtime Stream ‘N’ Wood owners Warren Murray and Lavern Popple, after nearly 30 years of building their business, passed the torch to three longtime staff members who are now the new owners of Stream ‘N’ Wood.
  • Patmore Nursery Sales welcomes new owner

    Patmore Nursery Sales at 1307 18th St. has a new owner. Marci Vreeman Bomford joined Patmore Nursery owner Kent Mulholland as a co-owner of Patmore’s earlier this month.
  • Eggs-travaganza at Two Farm Kids

    Two Farm Kids, located at 565 34th St., has an egg-cellent promotion going on. With every $40 purchase of regular priced merchandise, Two Farm Kids will give you a dozen farm eggs for free! The egg promotion started yesterday and runs until March 30, except for on March 29, Good Friday, when the store will be closed. (They will open again on March 30 for the last day of the promotion and also to run their end-of-the-month 20 per cent off all bulk foods promotion.)

  • Dock's Green drive going strong

    Give Up the Green is shaping up to be a successful fundraising campaign for the Dock On Princess, located at 1133 Princess Ave. The campaign started Feb. 19 and will wrap up next Sunday, March 17, on St. Patrick’s Day. Dock manager Jamie Munro said there is still exciting ways to be a part of the campaign, which will benefit the Brandon Regional Health Centre’s Neonatal Unit, through the BRHC Foundation. “It’s been going really well. We’ve raised about $2,600 so far, which is about halfway there,” Munro said. “The response from our customer base has been fantastic.”
  • Princess Auto settling in at new location

    Princess Auto in Brandon closed its doors at its 1800 18th St. North location on Feb. 4 and the very next day opened the doors to a completely new, bigger and brighter Princess Auto just a half block down the street. Now located at 1855–18th St. North, Princess Auto boasts a spacious and well-lit 25,000-square-foot newly constructed store, more than 10,000 square feet bigger than its previous location. Adam Moore, assistant team leader at Princess Auto, said that the response from customers has been good.
  • Foster retiring after 52 years

    Cecil Foster is looking forward to retirement after 52 years in the floral business. Foster, who has owned Foster’s Floral Fashions for 50-plus years and Foster’s Bridal Fashions for more than 20 years, is hoping to sell both businesses and the building they are in, at 260 10th St., soon.
  • Forbidden Flavours adds Courtney's Cake Creations

    Let them eat cake … with their coffee that is. Customers at Forbidden Flavours at 1060 18th St. can have an extra special treat with their usual cup of joe. Courtney’s Cake Creations cupcakes, cake pops and whoopie pies are the newest feature on the menu at Forbidden Flavours on 18th. Forbidden Flavours owner Ryan Jacobson, said he spotted the line-up at Courtney’s Cake Creations stand at the Big Ones Craft show back in the fall and knew he wanted to try them in the coffee shop.
  • Kim's marks 25 years with new look

    Kim’s Asian Restaurant, located at 42 McTavish Ave. East, in the First Street Plaza, has a new look. The popular restaurant underwent a 10-day renovation in January and is marking its 25th year in business.
  • Family-run Thunderbird Bowl marks 50 years

    Fifty years has brought a lot of changes to one of the longest family-run businesses in town. Thunderbird Bowl is marking its 50th season in business. Back in 1962, Thunderbird Bowl, which is now located at 2140 Currie Blvd., opened with 16 10-pin lanes and a Salisbury House, in 13,000 square feet, with no parking.
  • Brandon Leon's store honoured by company

    Leon’s Furniture Superstore in Brandon has just been honoured with the top award from its peers of Leon’s franchisees. Rick Chrest, owner of Leon’s, said he was shocked and awed to get Leon’s Store of the Year award, as the competition is incredibly tough.
  • Nerbas takes over ownership of Custom Auto Truck Accessories

    Custom Auto Truck Accessories has a new owner. Ken Nerbas, who previously was an Old Dutch Foods owner/operator, purchased the Custom Auto Truck Accessories, located at 221 Rosser Ave., after being a customer there for many years.
  • Ye's Buffet marks opening with discounts

    Yes! Ye’s Buffet opens today! After jumping through the last of the hurdles, Ye’s Buffet, located at 201 18th St. North, is opening at 11:30 a.m. today and offering customers 50 per cent off their buffet meals!
  • Remingston's revamps menu

    Sometimes the first idea is the best one. At least that’s what management at Remington’s Seafood and Steakhouse are thinking these days. The restaurant, located in The Town Centre at 800 Rosser Ave., is in the process of revamping its new menu after adding a locally grown chef.
  • The Ranch hosts open house

    It was four years in the making, but Brandon’s private snowboard park, The Ranch, is up and running and club members want you to come check it out in an open house on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Jordan Ross, owner of Senate Skate and Snow in Brandon and a former 2011 Canada Games Team Manitoba coach, says the open house is a chance for club members to check out all the finished work that has been done at the snowboard park, located in Grand Valley Park on the ground of the old waterslide park.
