    The troubles for the building that once housed Clancy’s Eatery and Drinkery are behind the newest restaurant to open in that location this week — The Dock on Princess. After running two successful “test runs,” The Dock, located at 1133 Princess Ave., opened its doors for business on Wednesday, prepared to showcase its new look and savoury fresh menu.
  • Riverbend Soap Company hosts Ladies Night

    Riverbend Soap Company, located at 1003 13th St., is hosting its annual Ladies Night on Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Riverbend Soap Company owner Melinda Tannahill said it’s the fourth annual event for customers to check out the great natural products the store offers in time for Christmas shopping.

  • New owners, new name for Princess Ave. eatery

    The former Clancy’s Eatery and Drinkery in Brandon is undergoing a facelift inside and out thanks to a new pair of owners. The Dock on Princess, which is slated to open in the former Clancy’s location at 1133 Princess Ave. in late November, is currently undergoing extensive renovations inside.
  • Put a cherry on it -- Tastees is closing for season

    All good things must come to an end, for the season that is. Tastees Ice Cream and Grill, located at 1405 First St., will close up its shop for the season on Oct. 31st at 2 p.m.
  • 25 years for J&M Windows and Doors

    A big congratulations goes out to George Penner of J&M Windows and Doors for 25 years in business in Brandon. J&M Windows and Doors, located at 1860 18th St. North, was originally established and set up by Penner in 1983, when he worked for a window manufacturer and then bought out the ownership of the Brandon company in 1988.

    Brandon has a new place to find unique gifts and collectibles for the space and sports-minded alike. Now open is Maluga’s Memorabilia, located at 925 Rosser Ave. The shop has select hours at the moment, but owner Glenn Maluga said hours will be expanded in the coming year. Current hours are Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The shop specializes in what collectors dream of: autographed sports memorabilia and attire, vintage Star Wars, comic books and other toys. Maluga’s Memorabilia is running an exciting contest starting on Oct. 1, for every $50 spent, customers will get their name entered to win a Bobby Hull autographed Chicago Blackhawks jersey, with a $400 value. Canadian Tire gas bar retailer Kim Dudley was recently rewarded a very prestigious award — the OPE (Operational Performance Excellence) president’s award for 2011.

  • Komfort Kitchen adds patio

    There may not be too much patio weather left, but Komfort Kitchen is adding to the ambience of downtown eating with a three table patio just outside its restaurant at 835 Princess Ave. It was just this past May the popular breakfast and lunch spot started serving dinner three nights a week and now the busy spot will be able to accommodate more customers in the warmer months with the fresh-air appeal of its new patio. “We wanted to be a part of the whole downtown rejuvenation,” said Komfort Kitchen chef Derek Woychyshyn, who owns the restaurant with his wife Heather.

Located at 1212 18th St., the restaurant, famous for its English-style fish and chips, has revamped its menu to include many healthier options for those who prefer something other than seafood on their plates.

    If taking out the garbage is one of those household chores that makes you cringe, especially when winter winds are howling, then Curbside Brandon might be for you. Curbside Brandon is the Wheat City’s newest business of convenience for those who don’t want to or have difficulty rolling out their garbage bins to the curb in time for pick up on garbage days.
  • Howard family sells building, land to developer

    After 80 years in business, the Howard family has officially sold the last remaining part of their business — the building and the land it sits on. Brothers Don and David Howard, the last owners of Howard’s Van and Storage Ltd., said they recently sold their building and land at 1440 Park Ave. to local developer BJ Nelson Development Ltd.
  • New computer store recycles e-waste

    A new computer store is opening up in Brandon and will not only sell new and refurbished computers, but also be the only ones in the Wheat City that can take your E-waste for recycling. Brandon Computers owners Danny Tayler and Jon Walker said the shop will open up and around the first of August and will be the only place in town that is part of the Province of Manitoba’s E-waste Roundup Program. E-waste includes televisions, computer equipment, telephones and audio and video equipment. Walker said Brandon Computers, located in the old Breakaway Sports building at 1229-E Richmond Avenue, will offer a line of new HP computers and accessories as well as repair, refurbish and sell used computers. Brandon Computers is EPRA (Electronic Products Recycling Association) authorized and can take both residential and commercial E-waste. But that’s just what Brian and Gwen Bromley are doing, now that Bromley’s Menswear moved in alongside The Cinnamon Tree at 934 Rosser Ave. Brian Bromley relocated Bromley’s Menswear from 929 Rosser Ave. to the vacant space beside his wife’s business, The Cinnamon Tree.

Marlene Kirton, who has owned the local branch of Marlin Travel, located at 301 18th St., has sold her business to other Marlin Travel franchise owners, the Percy Hunt Group, which will take over operations of the Brandon office as of July 1.
  • Olivier's owners firing up the grill again this summer

    Nothing says summer than the smell of a barbecue. And nothing says summer in downtown Brandon like the smell of Olivier’s Bistro Catering and BBQ at Princess Park at noon during the week. Olivier’s owners chef Paul Spiropoulos and his wife Susan are into their fourth year running their mouth-watering barbecue, just behind the Olivier’s Bistro Catering building at 220 Eighth St. in Princess Park.

    Kelleher Ford in Brandon will host its sixth annual Classic Car Rally today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the front of the car dealership, located at 1445 18th St. North Cory Andrew, one of two Kelleher Ford employees helping to organize the event, said all car lovers are welcome to check out the event.
  • Familiar face returns to downtown eatery

    Ben Hernandez is back where it all started for him in Brandon. The restaurateur is back at Remington’s Seafood and Steakhouse, located in The Town Centre at 800 Rosser Ave., but this time he owns a piece of the pie. Hernandez left his most recent management role at Montana’s Cookhouse to become a managing partner at his old stomping grounds.
