If you are planning on dining out this weekend, you might consider Applebee’s, located at 1204 18th St.
After being closed for four days this week, the restaurant reopened after a major overhaul inside and out that saw big changes to the outside look of Applebee’s to the dining and lounge rooms inside.
"It’s a complete makeover inside and out," said Mohit Malhotra, Applebee’s director of operations, who came from the head office in Toronto to oversee the renovations.
Malhotra said more than 60 people worked 24 hours a day earlier this week to get the restaurant finished and back running by yesterday.
The new and improved Applebee’s boasts Manitoba Hydro-approved lighting and signage outside and other environmentally friendly changes, as well as a big landscaping makeover.
Inside the eatery, 15 50-inch TVs will get your attention, as well as new non-slip tile flooring, which replaces the carpet and new lighting in the dining room.
The kitchen also saw a lot of changes, Malhotra said, to make it a more efficient space for staff.

New Beginnings Intimate Apparel
A big congratulations is due to Judy Andrews and her staff at New Beginnings Intimate Apparel at 601 18th St. in Brandon.
Andrews is celebrating 30 years operating her business in the Wheat City and helping women of all ages with her specialized boutique.
Andrews started her business in 1982, at that time located in the Shoppers Mall.
After 11 years at the mall, she moved her business and operated out of the Heritage Building on Victoria Avenue for the next year and a half before moving again to the Brandon Clinic.
During that time, Andrews says she really focused on mastectomy fittings and added more bra lines and lingerie.
Four years ago, New Beginnings moved to its current location and Andrews said this move was her "dream store" turned into reality.
New Beginnings specializes in bra and mastectomy fittings, bras, sleepwear, hosiery, daywear, shape wear and swimwear, and carries popular brands such as Prima Donna, Spanx, Marie Jo, Twist and Fantasie.
Andrews says always adapting to her customers needs and going above and beyond with her products and customer service have been keys to her success.
"You always have to take it to another level. You have to challenge yourself," Andrews says. "You have to be passionate about what you do."
A Child’s Place
A Child’s Place in Brandon is closing. Sad news for the store, which also has two locations in Winnipeg, as it just marked 10 years in the Wheat City.
A Child’s Place’s lease is up at the end of June and the company will not be relocating in Brandon.
Jiffy Food and Video
Jiffy Food and Video, located at 1250 Richmond Ave., is running a fun contest for ice cream lovers! It’s called "Crack the Safe and Win!" and is running now until someone cracks the code on the safe and takes home more than $150 worth of prizes inside the safe.
"We did make more copies of the winning code, so hopefully somebody wins soon," said David Lindenberg, who owns Jiffy Food and Video with his wife Sandy.
Any purchase of an ice cream product from the store will give you a chance to draw from a bucket of safe codes. Try your code to see if it’s a winner and enjoy your ice cream!
