Bob and Linda Warden, who were known for their famous homemade burger and fries as past owners of another restaurant in the Wheat City, have just opened up Bob’s Steakhouse and Lounge.
Open now for a week in the old Parthenon Pizza location on 34th Street and Victoria Avenue, the family restaurant has been buzzing.
"Somebody must have got the word out ... and the place was just jammed over the weekend," Bob Warden said.
Warden said he had opened a Bob’s Steakhouse in Winnipeg, but chose to move back to Brandon for the location and size of the city. The burgers and fries aren’t the only popular items on the menu, which has everything from pasta and ribs, to pork chops and prime rib.
Bob’s Steakhouse also has a varied kids menu full of the favourites like hotdogs and chicken fingers. In the lounge, customers will find a big screen TV with the Winnipeg Jets channel playing, plus a pool table and VLTs (which are coming soon.)
The lounge and the restaurant have a capacity of about 150 people and will have more space when the patio opens up in the warmer months.
Bob’s Steakhouse and Lounge is open at 11 a.m. seven days a week.

BOATHOUSE
A new snow/skate/ski clothing store will be opening in the Shoppers Mall this spring. Boathouse, which boasts more than 50 stores nationwide, will open its 65th location in Brandon sometime in the spring.
"We’ve been opening new stores for a while now, said Ryan Petrimoulx, marketing manager for Boathouse. "Now we are working on building in Manitoba."
The store carries brands such as Billabong, DC, Roxy, Vans and more in clothing and shoes. The company also carries winter sporting apparel. Two locations opened in Winnipeg malls last year with a big bang — Boathouse brought in the band The Stereos.
There’s no word whether the Brandon location will attract the same pomp and circumstance. Check out Boathouse at boathousestores.com.
BLUENOTES
A favourite place for jeans is busy clearing out its merchandise in preparation to close its doors at the end of this month. Bluenotes, located in the Shoppers Mall, will exit the mall and the city by Jan. 31.
According to a Bluenotes manager, there are no plans to close other Bluenotes locations, but she declined to give the reason for the Brandon outlet’s closing.
In the meantime, prices have been slashed. It’s just $10 for most items, but get in there fast. Staff said they doubt if merchandise will last until the end of the month.
They are not exaggerating; they were already sold out of men’s jeans by Wednesday of this week.
