The Green Spot brings its annual Christmas Spectacular today with special events that will be happening throughout December.

On display now is the greenhouses’ brilliant collection of fresh poinsettias for display and today, to celebrate the beginning of Christmas Spectacular, local children’s author Jay Gerald will be on hand all day for a book reading and to sign and sell copies of his latest book, "The Adventures of Geo, the Pebble."

A farmers’ market will also be going on from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and The Green Spot will have a musical guest at 2 p.m. every Saturday. Today’s musical guest is the Dylan MacDonald Jazz Duo.

"Spring is our busiest time for sure, but the next big season is Christmas," said The Green Spot owner, Bernie Whetter.

Whetter said The Green Spot has a wide variety of tropical plants, kitchen and garden tools, costume jewelry and some fashion for women, and a special line of boxed chocolates from Mordens’ Chocolates that would make a great gift this Christmas.

Qdoba

After jumping through all the hoops, Laird and Tracey Lidster will open one of the first Qdoba Mexican Grill restaurants in Canada on Monday.

Laird Lidster said everything is in place for the Dec. 3 opening, with staff busily training and crews putting the finishing touches on the restaurant this weekend.

Located on 18th Street in the old Rogers Video building behind the seasonal Dairy Queen, Qdoba, classified as a "fast casual" restaurant, will offer Brandonites a fresh variety of choices.

"It’s very exciting for us," said Lidster, who also owns Brandon’s two Dairy Queens. "I first tried Qdoba in the (United) States almost a year ago and we were fortunate enough that they were looking at franchising into Canada."

Hours on the restaurant will be Monday to Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

For more information, visit Qdoba online at qdoba.com.
