Ben Hernandez is back where it all started for him in Brandon.
The restaurateur is back at Remington’s Seafood and Steakhouse, located in The Town Centre at 800 Rosser Ave., but this time he owns a piece of the pie. Hernandez left his most recent management role at Montana’s Cookhouse to become a managing partner at his old stomping grounds.
“I was having coffee with friends and keeping my options open and the opportunity came up,” said Hernandez, now owner/manager at Remington’s.
“It was an easy decision for me. To have the opportunity to come back and finish what I started is great. I feel like I have a new lease on life.”
Hernandez was manager of Remington’s when it first opened in The Town Centre in 2002 and continued to build the clientele as he worked until he left more than two years ago to help open the Five Guys franchise in Brandon. His latest role was part of the management team at Montana’s.
Hernandez has joined partner Bob Mazer in the ownership of Remington’s and is now back inviting customers to come see him at Remington’s and indulge in the unique flavours and menus the restaurant offers.
“Everyone has shown a lot of support,” Hernandez said. “It’s been like a homecoming of sorts. I’m here to stay now — all where it started 10 years ago.”

MEDIchair Brandon
MEDIchair Brandon is hosting its eighth open house on June 14 and is giving customers a chance to see the latest and most innovative products, including the latest advances in home medical equipment.
MEDIchair Brandon, located at 425 Pacific Ave., will host its open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and will provide a barbecue lunch of pork on a bun for just a $3 donation. All proceeds from the lunch will go to the local Manitoba chapter of the Cerebral Palsy Association.
Susan Sutter, manager of MEDIchair Brandon, said the open house is a unique opportunity for customers, including people with disabilities, senior with special needs and those working in these areas to see what is new in the industry.
“We can’t stock everything, and there are so many great things that the suppliers will be bringing,” Sutter said.
She said some of the new items on display will be chewable jewelry for children with autism and a product called Safe Tracks GPS that can track a user wherever they are — a handy device for suffers of Alzheimer’s or seniors with other special needs.

Clear Lake Lodge Cabins
While there may be an empty spot at the corner of Columbine and Tawapit in Wasagaming in Riding Mountain National Park, it’s only temporary.
The former owners of Clear Lake Lodge, Wally and Debb Geiler, who recently sold the lodge which was moved earlier this week into Onanole to become a bed and breakfast, plan to build seven cabins on their now vacant lot in Wasagaming over the next two years. The cabins will be about 1350 square feet and have three bedrooms and two baths.
Debb Geiler, the manager of Clear Lake Lodge Cabins, said shares in the new group of cabins are for sale and the shareholders will be able to use or rent their cabins at their discretion. The shareholders are responsible for the upkeep of their individual cabins and will share the cost of the common areas including the pool and hot tub on site.
Geiler said three cabins are currently under construction and should be in Wasagaming by the end of July. She said she is hopeful that all seven will be up and running by the end of the year, but that they are working within a two-year plan.
