The Zellers store at Shoppers Mall will be closing in mid-November. In the meantime, the store is holding a massive blowout sale.

If the Canadian Tire gas bar is one of your favourite places to fill up in the Wheat City, it may have something to do with the award-winning management at the shop.

Canadian Tire gas bar retailer Kim Dudley was recently rewarded a very prestigious award — the OPE (Operational Performance Excellence) president’s award for 2011.

Dudley started as a manager of the Canadian Tire gas bar in 1997 and become a retailer with the company in 2003. (The Canadian Tire gas bar is a separate entity from the Canadian Tire store). Dudley had already picked up the award of excellence for Central Canada and was chosen from other retail award winners across Canada for the president’s award.

"I knew I was nominated, but I was completely surprised. I really had no idea I was going to get it," Dudley said.

Dudley’s Canadian Tire gas bar in Brandon is the highest grossing in gas and non-gas sales in Manitoba. The Brandon location sold more than nine million litres of gasoline in 2011 and had $1.5 million in non-gas sales.

Dudley is also a peer coach for the Central Canada region, where she trains new retailers.

Zellers

Zellers has begun its closing-out sale. The sale will run until the department store, located in Shoppers Mall, closes in mid-November.

Management at Zellers said that most things in the store are on sale at a wide range of discounted prices, but there are some things not included in the sale. Target Canada will then take over the space once Zellers vacates the spot and begin some major renovations.

Target is slated to open in the spring of 2013.

Quick Lane Tire and Auto Centre

Just celebrating their opening is Quick Lane Tire and Auto Centre, located at Kelleher Ford in Brandon, (1445 18th Street.) The new Quick Lane services all makes and models of vehicles, offering light while-you wait repairs and services.

It will be holding a major grand opening during the next week, starting on Monday and running until Saturday, Sept. 15. A ribbon cutting and charity barbecue, with proceeds going to the Brandon Humane Society and Funds for Furry Friends, will take place at Quick Lane on Friday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A car show, rally and another charity barbecue is planned for Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The car show will feature vintage and hot rod vehicles.

There are also prizes to be had for those who attend the barbecue and car show, with prizes like iPods and Brandon Wheat Kings hockey tickets.

For more information, call 204-728-8554.

The Quick Lane in Brandon is one of 650 Quick Lane locations across North America.
