There may not be too much patio weather left, but Komfort Kitchen is adding to the ambience of downtown eating with a three table patio just outside its restaurant at 835 Princess Ave. It was just this past May the popular breakfast and lunch spot started serving dinner three nights a week and now the busy spot will be able to accommodate more customers in the warmer months with the fresh-air appeal of its new patio.
"We wanted to be a part of the whole downtown rejuvenation," said Komfort Kitchen chef Derek Woychyshyn, who owns the restaurant with his wife Heather.
"It’s a bit more visibility and it gives us something extra to offer to our customers."
The new dinner menu, which features the popular appetizer "Triple Threat" (almond stuffed dates wrapped in bacon and served with a maple balsamic reduction) and the choose-your-own cut of roasted pork or beef loin, has been well received by patrons and is available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
"People seem quite happy that we are open for supper. I’ve seen quite a few regulars that are in for breakfast or lunch come in for supper now," Woychyshyn said.
Woychyshyn said he uses the freshest ingredients in his dishes, including the fresh-cut vegetable medley that is featured on the dinner menu.
Komfort Kitchen is open Monday to Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and then 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Jo Brook Firearms
Jo Brook Firearms will host a sporting clay shooting event Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Brandon Gun Club, located one mile south of Brandon on Highway 10.
"It’s a fall warmup for hunters," said Jo Brook Firearms owner Travis VanDaele, adding that the most popular hunting season, for ducks and geese, is just around the corner, starting Sept. 8.
Jo Brook Firearms will have a skeet field and a walk-through sporting clay course with 60 targets.
The event is open to the public and to spectators, but those wishing to participate in the skeet and clay courses are asked to bring their own equipment.
VanDaele said Jo Brook Firearms will also have a demo area up with a variety of shotguns for customers to try and firearm instructor Don Teale on hand. They will also have specials in store and at the Brandon Gun Club on hunting gear, ammunition and decoys.
"We like to promote and grow the sport (of hunting). We wanted to host it at the Brandon Gun Club to promote them as well. It’s a good facility and hopefully this will help them," VanDaele said.
The cost for the event is $7 per round of skeet and $20 for the 60-target clay course. The event will run from 3 p.m. until dusk on the Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Saturday 5. Registration is not required.

Richmond dry Cleaners
Stan Puhach is retiring after 35 years in his family’s dry-cleaning business.
Sutton-Harrison Realty announced earlier this week they had purchased the Richmond Dry Cleaners land and building from Puhach and would build its new office on the Richmond Avenue spot. Robins Donuts is moving into the current Sutton-Harrison space at 445 10th St.
It means the end of an era for Puhach, whose parents, Mike and Julie Puhach, purchased the business in 1976.
He worked alongside them and for years with his mother, who served as the business’ seamstress, until her passing a few years ago.
"We worked together for many years. We got along really well. It was nice working with my mother those years," Puhach said.
Puhach’s own children even worked in the business growing up.
"Opportunity knocked and now it’s time for me to retire," Puhach said.
Richmond Dry Cleaners will officially close its doors on Nov. 1.
