Hair Today Mall Barbers has a new, well-known owner.

Longtime Brandon school board trustee Jim Murray recently purchased Hair Today Mall Barbers, located in Shoppers Mall, and said he is enjoying running his own salon.

"It really is a fabulous location and we have a tremendous staff here. I was the new person and they received me really well," said Murray, who spent 22 years of his career at Regis Salon in Brandon.

It’s not the first business Murray has owned. He owned Brandon Gun and Tack Ltd. in the late 1980s before becoming a hairdresser.

Murray says he plans a $100,000 renovation for Hair Today Mall Barbers in the new year. The shop will close for renovations on Jan. 13 and reopen within two weeks.

"We’re going to add a lot more retail and just create a fresh, clean new look," Murray said.

If you are in Shoppers Mall today, bring a non-perishable food item for the Westman Traditional Christmas Dinner to Hair Today Mall Barbers and you will receive $5 off of any service.

For more information, call Hair Today Mall Barbers at 204-728-8431.

Fisher Auto Electric

After 15 years in the Wheat City, Fisher Auto Electric, owned by Stephen and Pamela Fisher, has closed after being purchased by L&G Ag Service.

Glenda and Lyle Laird, of L&G Ag Service, located close to the town of Margaret, plan to add the services and equipment of Fisher Auto Electric and the skills of Stephen Fisher to their current business.

"When they mentioned they were closing — Steve did a lot of work for us and we didn’t know where we would take our work after that," said Glenda Laird. "So we’re going in a new direction and adding those services to our existing space. Steve will do those repairs in our shop."

Equipment was moved to the L&G shop this past Thursday. Laird said they are ready to take on customers repairs.

For more information, call L&G Ag Service at 204-776-2045.

Ye’s Buffet

It has taken a little longer than originally planned, but the 260 seat Ye’s Buffet should be open soon.

Ye’s manager Ivan Tang said the restaurant, located at 201 18th St. North, is currently undergoing the final inspections needed before opening.

There is a sign on the restaurant that says "Opening soon," but Tang said that won’t likely be before Christmas.

Brandon Wheat Kings

The Brandon Wheat Kings are offering a bonus this Christmas with special ticket packages. For the first time, the Wheat Kings are offering a "bonus" ticket with a four or seven pack of ticket vouchers.

"It’s not something we’ve sold a lot of over the Christmas season before, but ticket vouchers is something we wanted to highlight as a gift this year," spokesman Rick Dillabough said.

Fans can purchase a pack of seven ticket vouchers for the price of five, redeemable for any Brandon Wheat Kings regular season game this season, at a price of $99. Or fans can get a pack of four ticket vouchers for the price of three, $59. The offer is good until Christmas.

For more information, visit wheatkings.com. For tickets call 204-726-3555.
