Patrons get a look at the inside of Brandon's newest eartery, The Dock on Princess, on Tuesday. The restaurant, located at 1133 Princess Ave., opened its doors on Wednesday.
The troubles for the building that once housed Clancy’s Eatery and Drinkery are behind the newest restaurant to open in that location this week — The Dock on Princess.
After running two successful "test runs," The Dock, located at 1133 Princess Ave., opened its doors for business on Wednesday, prepared to showcase its new look and savoury fresh menu.
Featured on the diverse menu are dishes that are completely unique to the restaurant. Some of the most popular dishes during the two test runs were the blackened salmon and turkey avocado wraps, the lamb burger, and the Pastrami and Egg burger.
The menu features a mix of burgers and wraps, soups, salad, pasta, flatbread pizza and old favourites with a new twist, like the Cap’n Crunch Chicken Fingers. The menu items were handpicked and created by The Dock’s culinary team, headed by executive chef Ramon Nikkel.
Darren Burdeniuk, who is one of the owners of The Dock on Princess, said they wanted customers to be delighted by the varied choices.
"People need choices. We didn’t want an ‘open a box and cook it’ restaurant," Burdeniuk said.
Ingredients used in the menu items are as local as they can be, bread and grain products from Kuipers Family Bakery, the coffee is ground at Forbidden Flavours, Manitoba Poultry, certified Angus beef, Canadian sustainable fresh salmon and Manitoba Peak of the Market produce.
Like the ingredients, the staff is a collection of the best as well.
"Our staff is handpicked. We wanted the cream of the crop," Burdenuik said.
Now that renovations are complete and the restaurant is once again up and running, Burdenuik said he will step back and let the staff, including general manager Jamie Munro, take the reins.

Genesis Hospitality
Genesis Hospitality, which is based in Brandon and owns the Victoria Inn and the Royal Oak Inn and Suites, as well as a string of other hotels across the country, has won an award for being one of Canada’s 50 Most Engaged Workplaces.
This is the third year in a row the company has achieved the award, which recognizes business that show leadership and innovation toward their employees.
Companies are judged by the "Eight Elements of Employee Engagement," which include communication, leadership, culture, rewards, recognition, professional and personal growth, vision and values and corporate responsibility.
"I take great pride in this award earned," said Kevin Swark, executive president of Genesis Hospitality. "I think an award like this goes a long way when we are hiring employees, or branching out and buying another hotel, then the employees know that we are a good company to work for."
Swark said he believes the company’s point system for employees where employees can earn points for exemplary service, or ideas that benefit the company in some way, is a major factor in getting the award.
