Cathie Crossin is the owner of Tastees Ice Cream and Grill. She says the business will be closing for the season at 2 p.m. on Oct. 31.
All good things must come to an end, for the season that is.
Tastees Ice Cream and Grill, located at 1405 First St., will close up its shop for the season on Oct. 31st at 2 p.m.
Tastees, a much loved grill and ice cream stop in the East end, opened up the first week of March and will do its usual shutdown for the winter months in just a few weeks.
"The reason we are a seasonal business is that our building is not insulated. We look forward to spending the winter months with family, but I do get mixed feelings this time of year. It’s hard to close. We’re engrained in the community and we make up the fabric of the east end like any yearly business does," said Tastees owner Cathie Crossin.
"Everyone comes to see us this time of year and tells us they are here for that one last strawberry milkshake and that they will miss us. And then we see those same customers again when we open in the spring."
Tastees specializes in mouth-watering grilled burgers, hotdogs, chili, homemade fries, onion rings and more lunch/dinner items, as well as various ice cream delights including milkshakes, sundaes, banana splits and its famous touchdown treat.
"People absolutely love our touchdown treat and most everything has been pretty consistent all season, but our chili has developed a greater following. We’re very proud of our chili. We make it ourselves from the freshest ingredients and people like it with a toasted bun on the side, or as a chili dog or on fries," Crossin said.
Tastees will be running some great daily specials for the month of October, such as two for one banana splits or sundaes. To find out what the Tastees daily special is, visit their Facebook page (search Tastees). Also on special are their own ice cream sandwiches. A bag of 10 is just $10.
