If you’re excited about the 2013 home opener of the Brandon Wheat Kings, why not celebrate a little early?
The Wheat Kings and the Keystone Centre are hosting a home opener tailgate party today, from 4 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., for the whole family before the home team faces off against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
The tailgate party includes activities for kids, beer for the adults and a barbecue — all located inside the Convention Hall at the Keystone Centre.
“Last year we tried doing this outside and the weather wasn’t great — it was cold and we didn’t end up with a very good turnout. We brought it inside this year, so we hope to see a lot more people,” said Drew Clayton, the Wheat Kings’ director of game-day operations. “We try to make it bigger and better every year.”
The tailgate party will include a children’s play area, complete with face painting, bouncy houses and games. A few mascots will be available for handshakes and pictures. A live band — the Ukadians — will be featured in the Hockey House, where the beer garden will be located.
Tickets are going fast for the home opener — fans are encouraged to get to their seats early tonight to catch all the extra special events that come with the first game of the season. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will get a special Wheat Kings glow stick.
Wheat Kings season tickets are still available at 40 per cent off the gate price. For more information, call 204-726-3555 or visit the Wheat Kings online at wheatkings.com.
Smitten has Halloween costumes! Yes, they have costumes for the bedroom, but Smitten manager Nicole Epp says they have a wide selection of costumes to wear out of the bedroom, too.
“We have all sorts of costumes that are appropriate to wear outside. We are also the only ones to be carrying the Playboy brand of Halloween costumes,” Epp said.
Smitten carries the old favourites, including maids and Little Red Riding Hood, but they also carry some more fun selections, including fairies and Willie Wonka costumes. A small selection of costumes for men is also available. Sizes start from extra small and go up to plus-size.
“We’ve been carrying costumes every year since we opened. We have the sexy ones, but also ones that are very covering. Halloween is fun and lots of people love to dress up,” Epp said.
Smitten also has a large selection of masks, wigs and other accessories.
Smitten is located at 658 18th St., and is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.
