Yes! Ye’s Buffet opens today!

After jumping through the last of the hurdles, Ye’s Buffet, located at 201 18th St. North, is opening at 11:30 a.m. today and offering customers 50 per cent off their buffet meals!

Ye’s Buffet manager Ivan Tang said the 300-seat restaurant will offer both lunch and dinner buffets, and feature tantalizing dishes like King Crab, sushi, Chinese and Thai food as well as a selection of American food.

"We have hundreds of items on the buffet — a very large selection. It’s good for the whole family. There is something for everybody at a price you can’t beat," Tang said.

If you can’t make it to Ye’s today, then the restaurant will still be offering 20 per cent off the buffet price tomorrow through Wednesday.

The buffet will also feature a selection of salads, pizza and desserts.

Ye’s Buffet is open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today.

Gulliver’s Grill

After much planning and thought, Gulliver’s Grill will be closing at the beginning of March.

Chad Wallin, who is part of a group of Brandon business owners who purchased the restaurant, located at 1630 Park Ave., in July, said they plan to close Gulliver’s so it can undergo three months of extensive renovations and then become a different restaurant entirely.

"It’s not going to be a chain. It’s going to be an independent, locally owned restaurant. It will be a little more modern, more trendy and upscale," Wallin said. "Sort of a California casual type of restaurant."

Wallin said the restaurant will not be any franchise currently rumoured to be such as Earl’s or Joeys and another Joe Beeverz will not be opening in the Gulliver’s location.

The "very expensive" renovations planned to Gulliver’s include gutting the interior entirely, adding a lounge and replacing a few of the exterior walls.

The capacity will be similar to the number now — 75 seats in the lounge area and between 110 and 115 in the dining area.

"I think we will be filling a niche in the Brandon market and are breathing new life into the dining sector of western Manitoba. It’s not a theme restaurant, but it’s exciting to bring something new and different to Brandon."

Wallin said they are hoping to open the new restaurant in June.

Komfort Kitchen

Komfort Kitchen is coming up on eight years in business in Brandon and the downtown favourite is adding something new and fresh to the way it does business.

Komfort Kitchen owner and chef Derek Woychyshyn said the restaurant will be adding a self-serve, all you can eat, "continental breakfast," from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. starting at the beginning of February.

It’s not going to be the unexciting continental breakfast you’re used to though.

Freshly baked on-site pastries, muffins and scones, fresh cut fruit, as well as whole fruit, granola, fruit parfaits, cottage cheese, fruit spritzers will be among some of the delectable items on Komfort Kitchen’s continental breakfast.

"We really thought this would fit in with what we do. We wanted to offer Brandonites something fresh and a little healthier," Woychyshyn said.

"It will also take pressure off the line and speed things up when people can just walk in, tell the server they want that and have breakfast immediately."

Komfort Kitchen is not shy of change.

In the last year the restaurant went from a breakfast and lunch spot to also serving dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Brandon Credit Unions

All four credit unions in Brandon are banding together to help get some much needed food donations for the Samaritan House Ministries food bank.

All of the Brandon branches of the Crocus, Vanguard, Sunrise and Westoba Credit Unions will be collecting much needed non-perishable food items through the month of January.

The most needed items include: canned goods, such as soups; meats; vegetables; fruits; stews; and jarred and boxed items, such as peanut butter or cheese spread, pastas and cereals.

Members are asked to drop donations off at any of these credit unions throughout this month.
