Good road work

It’s not often enough that we can offer thanks to governments for finishing what they started. But as of Friday afternoon, we can do exactly that.

As the Sun reports today, Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger and federal Minister of State Steven Fletcher came to Brandon yesterday to officially announce the completion of major upgrades along a section of Highway 10 North between the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 25.

The work on Highway 10 covered a distance of more than 15 kilometres, and included construction of northbound and southbound passing lanes, and the repaving of the entire roadway.

There have been far too many vehicle collisions on this highway that have resulted in far too many deaths over the years and it’s our hope that these improvements will serve to limit such horrific incidents.

And for that reason, we say thanks to the federal and provincial governments for listening to the concerns of western Manitobans.

Now that that’s out of the way, how about the rest of our crumbling highways, bridges and roads?
