Happy New Year

Take a deep breath, because 2014 starts now.

Sure, technically the first day of the new year was yesterday. And you probably rang it in the night before.

But today the holidays are over, the Christmas bills will start arriving, and it’s back to the steady winter grind of short days and long nights.

That cold, fresh air is indicative of a fresh start. The weeks of excess that are traditional at the end of December are about to be replaced by dedication to those New Year’s resolutions.

Right?

Well, we’re sure that some of you (some of us, too) may have already slipped up and broken a few resolutions.

But if you’ve set goals for 2014, they can still be achieved, despite early missteps. The important — though difficult — thing to remember is not to give up just because you haven’t managed to be perfect.

As the popular saying goes, “Pobody’s Nerfect.” We certainly aren’t. We have a space on Page A2 dedicated to corrections and clarifications.

But as a new year starts, it’s an excellent opportunity to look forward instead of backwards.

We take this opportunity to wish a Happy New Year to all our readers — subscribers and advertisers, both.
