Just a quick note to clarify a few points.
In a recent Saturday Brandon Sun, there was an article noting the average home price in Brandon has “topped $200K.”
The figure quoted, from the Manitoba Real Estate Association, are correct but may be somewhat misinterpreted.
The MREA figures are for the Brandon MLS© area as a whole, and include the sale of mobile homes, recreational properties and rural properties, among others.
This tends to skew the numbers significantly.
So for the greater Brandon trading area, we hit this milestone. However, for the City of Brandon, on its own, we hit that milestone a while ago.
For the City of Brandon for 2012 the average price for a single family home was $249,807.
In 2011, the same average price was $243,039.
I agree with Mr. Shields as far as the trends are concerned, however. Housing in the $200,000-$350,000 range is moving, and going, fast. And we are seeing an increase in average price, 2.8 per cent according to the above figures.
