Boosting ridership not a priority for Greyhound

In your editorial of April 10 you stress that “passengers are the key for any bus line.” You fail to cover the part about making things convenient for these passengers.

Greyhound has done nothing to try to increase the number of riders. Rather it has made the ride more inconvenient in an effort to justify the closing of these routes.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has sat in a car waiting for a bus in Shoal Lake at four in the morning only to find that the company not only does not know where their bus is but also no idea when or if it will arrive.

It is hard to believe that in an era when a trucking company knows the exact location of each and every vehicle in its fleet, that a large bus company does not even utilize the technology. In your article you refer to the Minnedosa-Erickson-Russell route, which according to the Internet and the information provided by the people at Greyhound, still has a depot in Erickson, which if you try to catch a bus, is wrong. You now have to flag it down on Highway 10.

I do not know if a bus route in this area can be profitable, but I do know that Greyhound has done nothing to increase its business. It has raised the price of freight to the point where most business people use a courier, which is certainly more dependable and close to the same price.

I do not think that we require a bus everyday, but we could certainly use a service that operates at a reasonable hour and is at least trying to attract our business.
