Re: Prime Minister Stephen Harper tours areas in Manitoba threatened by flooding, Brandon Sun, July 7.
It’s past time gentlemen.
This is a result of government (Conservative and NDP) drainage policy and the idea that farmers/business have a right to run the show.
A future for our children and grandchildren that isn't filled with disaster and hardship is required.Whatever happened to the public good as the guiding principle for public policy?
What Canada desperately needs is a water commissioner!
Someone with the courage and resourcefulness (and clout) to lay down the pertaining regulations (yet to be put in place) to protect all the waters of our nation, Canada.
The present mishmash of every province doing “their” own thing, with an out of sight, out of mind syndrome and attitude is not acceptable, as you have experienced and recognized.
Working with our American neighbours to help achieve similar water protection would entail a diplomatic Canadian envoy to also pursue and achieve those results.
