In the June 14 issue of the Brandon Sun on Page A15, you published a column by Kerry Auriat entitled “Another Taxpayer-funded Boondoggle” in which he criticizes Coun. Len Isleifson for attending the annual conference of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in Niagara Falls, Ont.
This was at taxpayers’ expense eight days after he announced that he would not seek re-election as a councillor.
The experience and knowledge gained by our council delegates at that conference was presumably used to better serve the citizens of Brandon on our city council. I agree with Kerry Auriat that Coun. Isleifson has some explaining to do. Here is a professed Conservative who preaches the party line of fiscal and personal responsibility virtually abusing the system.
The column was accompanied by a large picture of Coun. Isleifson in front of city hall announcing on May 22 that he will seek the provincial Progressive Conservative nomination for the Brandon East constituency.
I believe he is a full-time employee of Prairie Mountain Health, and I wonder whether the political statement was made during his working hours when he was being paid by the taxpayers of Manitoba. Mr. Isleifson has some additional explaining to do.
