Don't punish gun owners for one person's actions

Just a note of sanity on the question of gun control.

An insane person used a rifle to kill 13 women in Quebec. A tragedy to be sure.

But should all the entire sane and responsible long-gun owners be punished for this tragedy?

Hundreds are killed every year by (insane) impaired and careless drivers every year. Shall we ban all automobiles? Of course not.

Hundreds were killed on the Titanic and other sea disasters. Shall we ban all ships? Of course not.

Hundreds were killed in the 9-11 attacks and other air disasters. Shall we ban aircraft? Of course not.

Hundreds are stabbed. Shall we ban knives? And on and on.

It's not the ships, planes, knives, etc., that kill any more than it is rifles.

Well an unloaded gun is a just a stick Barndb. a loaded gun left behind eth stove in et hkitchen can stay there forever until picked up and used. I know this. It is true guns are for killing but I lived in China for 6 years and there they are for killing (you can have a 12 guage in your possession) but rifles and pistols are for entertainment. I went bowling as much as I went to a range and both were often. You can pick your choice of weapon (out of many, even full auto) and you buy ammo. Then go to the range restaurant and have a few beer. It is cruel to see, however, only gangsters have AK-47's you never hear about them much but it does go on.
So George is right people kill people and if no guns then ships, planes, rocks...it won't matter.

Nevertheless, a firearm is a weapon. As a gun owner myself, I understand that. You can't ferry people across oceans, commute to work or cut your steak with a rifle. Is the registry a waste of time and money, most certainly yes. But lets be clear that a firearm is only good for one thing...killing. Whether its deer on the range in Cornwallis, elk in Riding Mountain or insurgents in Afghanistan, its sole purpose is to inflict harm. That make's it easy to be "tough" on crime. 'Cause who would vote for a politician that wasn't?
