Seniors today have difficulty understanding the recent riots in Vancouver, London, Ont., and Greece, and the one currently taking place in Montreal, where the 17-25 age group is protesting a $325 yearly university tuition hike over the next 5 years.
(After five years, they will still have the lowest tuition in the country, with taxpayers footing the bill for 83 per cent of the cost.)
Why you ask? Well, you are dealing with the “entitlement generation,” many of whom have never before heard the word “No.” They were raised by babysitters and daycare centres, while mommy and daddy worked their backsides off to have the biggest and best of everything. With guilty feelings over never seeing their kids, they bought their love with material things — the latest electronic toys, designer labels, clothing, cellphones, computers, skateboards, ski-doos, cars, you name it. And the kids realized that the more they asked for, the more they got! Nobody ever said “No.”
Now, today, with their young bodies mutilated with rings or studs in their ears, noses, lips, eyebrows, cheeks and tongues, and their skin disfigured with ugly tattoos, many are seemingly unemployable as they apply for jobs expecting to make six-figure incomes like mommy and daddy did, but forgetting that it took a lifetime of hard work for their parents to reach that level. They want it now! And they get angry if they don’t get what they want! They are not used to that. And if you don’t give them what they want, they will destroy what you have — police cars, public and private properties, and your peaceful lifestyle!
“No” is not an option!
At a Winnipeg restaurant last week, I approached a group of eight young 17- to 21-year-old women at the table next to us, who were kicking up such a ruckus that we could not hear our own conversations at our table. I politely asked them if they could show respect for other patrons and “just tone it down a little.”
The response? “This is a public restaurant, and we will make as much noise as we want to, and neither you, nor anybody else, is going to tell us how much noise we will or will not make!”
Be prepared, folks, the spoiled “entitlement generation” is hearing the word “No” more often as they get out in the real world, away from mommy and daddy, and they don’t like it. And they are going to take their anger and frustration out on the rest of us!

This is a MOST BRILLIANT Letter to the Editor!
My mother asked me for a copy of this letter.
I have cut this letter out of my own paper as well.
This letter is indeed a KEEPER!
The absolute WISDOM and very accurate observation of our elders!
I was watching a television program the other evening and they were talking about the country of Sweden.
In Sweden, they have decided that the state knows BEST!
They are requiring ALL children from 12-18 months, at the very eldest, to be enrolled in their state run Daycare programs.
Families are NO LONGER ALLOWED to Home School their own children!
Families OPPOSED to this new law are leaving Sweden and moving to Finland and other neighboring countries.
Statistics in Sweden ALREADY indicate that this new law is an absolute, dismal FAILURE/DISASTER as psychological problems in children have never been HIGHER than they are now!
Many families see this new law as just another attempt to break up/control the family.
In the state of California, it is now AGAINST the law to spank your own child.
May God help us all, as Mr. George Clayton so correctly observes and states.
Yes, truer words were never spoken, indeed.
Very sadly, society in general, appears to be about to REAP the consequences of this 'entitlement generation' that many of us have created.
