Errol exhibited lifelong commitment to equality

Errol Black is a soul mate. He remains so for all who are determined to seek a better world. A world in which there is greater fairness and equality within society and in the human condition.

His was no momentary, superficial, trendy and short-term commitment to the ideals of a more just and even handed economy and democracy. For his entire life, he stood firm and incorruptible against any and all measures that would disadvantage the lower-income citizens and families but then compound the unearned wealth of the super wealthy.

As an economist, he understood that this growing disparity was a man-made disaster made worse this past quarter century. We should admire his integrity and his values.

I shall remember Errol every time I think of the closing words of U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt’s inaugural — “The real test of our progress as a civilization is not whether we keep adding to the abundance of those who already have much, but rather in whether we add to the lives of those who have less.”
