I would like to thank to the “Sound Off” commenter on Sept. 15 for the compliment they paid to the state of Vincent Massey High School’s football field. We are very proud of the condition of our field, which has been a six-year labour of love.
I realized that this would be a great opportunity to thank all of the wonderful people who have contributed to the establishment and maintenance of the football field.
Thanks to the Brandon School Division and the City of Brandon for the initial levelling and seeding.
Thank you to the Rotary Club for donating scoreboards to all the high schools.
A huge thank you to all our football players, their families, community members and Vincent Massey administration who helped us fundraise for new sod and underground sprinklers. Thanks to the Griffin family for their many volunteer hours levelling and installing the sod last year. Thank you to Tom Czerkawski for his ongoing maintenance.
Most of all, I’d like to thank our equipment manager, assistant coach, in-house MacGyver and head of our grounds keeping “crew,” Jason (Jonesy) Jones. Jonesy has spent countless hours aerating, weeding, seeding, filling in gopher holes, sodding, levelling, mowing and anything else that was needed, including bringing his whole family out to paint the bleachers and field when its needed!
As a coaching staff we have always stressed character and hard work at Vincent Massey. To become successful at anything ... football, school, etc., there must be some sacrifice. To have a great field like we have, you must put in the time and effort to get the results!
Thanks for noticing.
