MP's Strand stance hurtful

I’m disappointed that Conservative MP Merv Tweed chose to act as a roadblock to the Strand Theatre restoration project rather than help the group that is submitting the application through the bureaucratic process.

Elected officials are expected to work with others to help build the communities they represent. As well, it’s the department of Heritage Canada’s role to review and approve funding applications. Mr. Tweed clearly stepped out of bounds by prematurely withdrawing his support for this project.

This secretive and power hungry Conservative government is on the path of micromanaging federal departments. Going through the sometimes burdensome hoops of bureaucracy ensures fairness and accountability of public spending. An MP who ignores the roles of federal departments is not representing our community and our democratic country.
