Predicting the wheat board's future

While most people in the grain industry were acknowledging the Canadian Wheat Board will not survive without the single desk, media magnet Cherilyn Jolly-Nagel, a former Western Canadian Wheat Growers president stated: “The CWB can operate effectively in a market-choice environment with the right people and the right attitude.”

Well since Minister Ritz hand-picks the entire board of directors at the CWB now, then they must have the right people and attitude as the minister spent all of 30 minutes at the wheat board learning about the grain industry workings!

Couple that with Jolly-Nagel’s pricing prowess of locking in $7 durum in December when it is now reaching highs and with her support of the large farm operation of Wigmore Farms, which is now out of operation, I’m sure her prediction that the CWB will survive is almost etched in stone?

If the politicians wanted to improve competition in Canada there were much better places the CWB to focus on.

How about the State liquor retail monopolies and the sham competition in the telecom sector?
