Re: “Bipole Debacle Getting Worse,” Brandon Sun Editorial, March 26.
I would like to make a few additional observations.
The Selinger government’s decision to reroute the Bipole III transmission line to the west with all its negative effects on the rich agricultural lands to the west and north of Winnipeg is probably the biggest slap in the face of farmers by any Prairie provincial government in history.
The ideological nonsense on which the Bipole decision was based has trumped all warnings and advice since then from engineers, economists and energy specialists, from far and wide.
As for any environmental benefit of the new route, it looks like Swiss cheese.
As farmers in the Brunkild area and elsewhere are discovering, Hydro and the premier, who gives it its marching orders, are in a very big hurry. They need to get enough of their grand hydro expansion built and committed before the next election so that no future government can do anything about it except weep.
