Services not Maple Leaf's responsibility

Much has been printed in the Sun’s Sound Off column recently stating that Maple Leaf Foods should finance and build schools.

This attitude is nonsense. The employer provides employment. It’s the responsibility of the City of Brandon to supply services.

Since school board trustees can be somewhat itinerant, the only constant with the school board during the last 10 years is the superintendent, Dr. Michaels. It is her responsibility to acquire property and provincial funding and build new schools.

Thousands of immigrants have arrived during the past 10 years. People get married — six years later their babies are ready for kindergarten to Grade 8. Let’s hope a new school is built and student-ready by September 2014.

No further delays should be tolerated.
