When I read the article regarding the premier of Manitoba declaring that students in Manitoba schools can opt out of Remembrance Day ceremonies held in schools, I was shocked at his disgraceful attitude towards all of our fallen soldiers.
The men and women of our Armed Forces, past and present, serve this country with great dignity and respect. They have performed their duties without thought to the outcome to themselves of what these duties are. Those that have lost their lives for our freedom do deserve to be remembered for their ultimate sacrifice.
Regardless of one’s religious affiliations, or lack of same, paying respect to those persons who have given their all for our way of life can never be thought of as an option.
The premier’s callous attitude seems to be motivated politically as it seems he is pandering to a small minority of our population.
The time that these persons have to spend in an act of remembrance is the least that these persons can do to show respect for our soldiers ultimate sacrifice, not to do so is beyond unconscionable and unpatriotic.
