Full disclosure — I have been a committed Conservative pretty much since birth, and I was and remain a supporter of Chris Kennedy’s nomination.
While, the experience of the Brian “Lyin’ Brian” Mulroney years made me an invisible conservative for a few years, and the recent Senate debacles have been sickening, the recent Brandon-Souris CPC nomination process has been an event that causes me to rethink continuing my CPC membership.
In my perfect world, Chris Kennedy wins the CPC nomination and is one step in rejuvenating the CPC party. The 25+ age group he has brought into the political process participate bringing youthful exuberance and enthusiasm. Larry Maguire continues in his role as an important cog in the provincial Conservative party and help rid our province of the NDP in the next provincial election.
I agree with the “Sound Off” contributor who suggested that if Larry Maguire wishes to be the CPC nominee in the byelection, he should withdraw his nomination and let it stand for a free vote by all CPC members to decide who represents Brandon-Souris. The results as they exist today are, at best, tainted. For most, they stink!
Better we all decide than some secret inner circle.
