Teaching religion role of church, not schools

I cannot agree with Mr. Colin Atkins’ recent letter to the Brandon Sun. It is simply offensive and wrong to equate science education with child abuse.

The two central, unifying concepts framing biology are cell theory and evolution … both are as central and indispensable to modern biology as atoms and molecules are to chemistry, or algebra and geometry are to mathematics.

If we are to teach biology at all, relying on superstitious faith instead of a solid grounding in a proper understanding of these central concepts would be the real abuse of the truth.

If we want to just teach religion, then it is for the Church, not the schools, to supply education in supernatural “intelligent design,” a term which after all is said and done is certainly not science, but just double-speak for the religious myths of creationism.
