Reading the Brandon Sun’s Saturday, Aug. 4 First World War “Memorial Edition” issue, the articles (both old and new), and the editorial, and all the glorifications of monarchy and aristocracy, I figured a letter arguing against such hereditary over-privileged elites and the glorification and tolerance of them is needed.
The First World War and most wars (especially large-scale ones) have NEVER been truly about “protecting the people” or their freedoms, quite the opposite actually. These wars are ALWAYS started and fought to protect the privilege of those with excess wealth and power already, especially the monarchs/royals and the aristocracy. They sacrifice millions, billions of innocent poorer lives (their serfs/slaves ... the poorer). We even call “terrorists” those that would try and thwart this corrupt, inhuman, insane institution of hereditary privilege (monarchy, aristocracy, etc.) and the people are propagandized to be their willing slaves and sacrificial lambs! Even in today’s world, we still stupidly do this, even inculcating children from birth to gleefully glorify and submit to this slavery and honour these self-appointed masters (the kings, queens, princes, princesses, aristocratic hierarchy, undeserved hereditary over-privilege of every sort) to treat them as exalted, sacred, untouchable gods!
