Your front page article on teachers who dig deep for classrooms was a very interesting article.
Again it brings up the issue of “merit pay for teachers.” There are those teachers who teach because it is a passion and a privilege to enable children to learn. Money does not really matter to them.
Then there are others who do the minimum required to retain employment and have lost or never did have much passion.
According to the collective agreement with the teachers union (sorry, association — but on the farm if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, we call it a duck), everyone is paid the same. The only difference is years of experience and classification by degree.
This year, 2014, it’s time for a complete overhaul to the way teachers are paid.
